The Writing Game For Storytellers
Set Your Sacred Hours, Track Your Time, And Finish Your Book
Hey there!
I have been writing daily on the Internet for 10+ years.
I'm convinced it's the foundation for every type of creative work:
Video-making
Storytelling
Podcasting
Marketing
Selling
The problem is, at some point, all writers struggle to show up and write.
Even with the best intentions, you can easily get sidetracked by more urgent matters that drag you away from your writing:
Family demands
Work emergencies
The endless stream of notifications
That's why creating a daily writing habit is so crucial.
It's the difference between dreaming about finishing your book and actually typing "The End.” So how do you build this habit when life keeps getting in the way?
It starts with carving out Sacred Hours for your craft and it ends with…
Let’s dive in.
What are Sacred Hours?
Sacred Hours are blocked-off chunks of time that are - you guessed it - sacred.
No distractions, no responsibilities, nothing else to check up on. Just you and your writing for at least two hours. The key is to schedule your Sacred Hours in advance and defend them ruthlessly. This isn't something you stumble upon - it's intentional.
To find your optimal Sacred Hours, ask yourself two questions:
When am I most productive?
When can I be least responsive?
Your Sacred Hours lie at the intersection of these two times.
Keep in mind there is no right or wrong answer here.
Maybe it's 5-7 AM before the world wakes up. Or 11:30 AM - 1 PM when everyone's at lunch. Find what works for you.
And once you've identified your Sacred Hours, protect them fiercely.
But here’s the thing:
Scheduling is the easy part. Working is the hard part.
Sacred Hours are your time for writing!
The last thing you want to do is block off your calendar only to waste your time with shallow, monotonous work—or worse scrolling Instagram. Sacred Hours are for doing the high-leverage, creative, deep work that truly moves the needle—like writing your book, novel, or even unpacking ideas in your journal.
You’ve got your Sacred Hours.
Now what?
Show up. Stack your wins.
The more you write, the more you write.
And the more you write, the bigger your library gets and the closer you get to your writing goals. When I look back at all my personal growth (whether that’s in writing, business, or fitness) over the last few years, the key ingredient has been a commitment to showing up and doing the boring fundamentals, day after day.
There’s something satisfying about watching your writing streak build over time.
There’s an idea, made famous by the comedian Jerry Seinfeld, that you shouldn’t “break the chain”. Stacking daily writing sessions keeps your momentum rolling and helps you realize you’ve got power behind you: you’ve defeated boredom, writer’s block, and imposter syndrome on all your previous writing days, you can do it again today.
So no matter how small the rep is, you want to keep stacking those writing wins.
Writing is a game of compounding effort.
When I was 17 years old, I became one of the highest ranked World of Warcraft players in North America.
I spent 95% of my free time playing the game. And if I didn't sustain my rating for at least 10 games each week, my rank would drop significantly. Falling behind wasn't an option.
I wanted to win.
And you know what? That relentless consistency taught me the most valuable lesson of my life:
When you're disciplined, you can't lose.
I’ve carried this lesson with me in everything I do. It’s the reason I’ve published over 3,000 articles online, built multiple 7-figure writing businesses, and worked with hundreds of writers.
And now, I want to share this superpower with you.

A fantastic game… this could be applied to any skill or work that needs dedication.. I love it
I checked it out, and I’d love this game for non-fiction and memoir. I’m not into world building, or writing amazing fictional stories. Do you know of a similar app or course that has a layout like this one to track ‘Sacred Time’ and the other features? Thank you for sharing this and I’m certain it’s a very helpful tool.
